Patch 2
The Map Update
It's no secret that Shigatari is one of my favorite indie games, if not games in general. With this update, I'm bringing Dream Warrior a step or two closer to that direction. Now, instead of a fully random encounter, there's some choice in the matter via a small node map. There are a few differences of course. I don't know ahead of time how many nodes will be on the map, so it just keeps going until you reach the end, via the magic of RNG. On the other hand, you can't plan your path many moves ahead. I think it's a good compromise, and also adds another layer of strategy.
There are a few other things in Patch 2. There are some non-combat nodes which give you the chance to encounter friendly creatures. Having a shared goal, they can give you powerful rewards. One of these rewards is a blessing. Before, gaining skills was a matter of accumulation; more was always better. With these blessings, only one can be active at a time, similar to how you can only equip one main hand item or one armor item.
With the new map screen, I added yet more music and another sound effect. This brings the size of the game up to 11.1 MB. I'm starting to grow a bit wary of the file size, but I think it's still probably within acceptable parameters. Let me know what you think!
Also, I'd definitely be interested in opinions on the map update! This is a bit of a departure from the DW-battles-only arrangement found in previous versions. Do you find the extra layer of gameplay appealing, or is the narrower scope more to your liking?
