Patch 3

The last time I entered "Improve My Game Jam," I worked until the very last moment. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in launching with a devastating, catastrophic bug caused by literally 3 characters that were misplaced in unfortunate ways. That, in turn, resulted in people thinking Dream Warrior was a one-joke game. I'll have you know that there are at least two jokes here, maybe more!

This time I'm doing something a bit different: I'm not working until the deadline. In fact, I'm calling this update "Patch 3," which may well be the final patch. We'll see.

Anyway, since the last time around, I joined another, similar jam with Patch 2. That's the map update, which was pretty neat if I do say so myself.

As for Patch 3, the following changes were made:

  • QoL: Combat is much faster! I found some workarounds to allow considerably less clicking to advance combat phases.
  • Content: The Lady of The Lake has a quest for you.
  • Content: A shady Dealer, who is the only source of a mysterious new item, "X."
  • Content: A vile Beggar.
  • Content: Several new skills. Also new things to do with old skills.
  • Content: A new special weapon, the Square Hammer.
  • Content: The subtle effect of terrain slowly transforming from gentle and green to horrible is now far less subtle.
  • Content: Literally no one thought to mouseover map nodes, so the title attribute was doing very little to explain them. There's now a fairly obvious button that serves the same purpose.
  • Balance: The Drunk class now starts off stronger, but gains less stats per level. It has approximately the same stats at level 5 as before, though.
  • Balance: Mild buff to Cheers ability, based on what someone assumed it did. It was a good idea.
  • Balance: The Goth class can now use a subset of special weapons.
  • Assorted bug fixes, text fixes, and other stuff I don't remember.

There are still a few things I wouldn't mind doing in Dream Warrior. There are, unfortunately, many other things that I need to do outside of Dream Warrior. I'm reasonably pleased with this game, and it was a great deal of fun to make. I just can't justify spending time working on something that only I play. If you a member of that ultra-select group of Dream Warrior Enjoyers, I salute you and send profuse thanks.
